What's worth making this week
Issue of 2 November 2026
5 formats moved in general content this week. Each one below is written out far enough that you could shoot it today.
B-Roll Text Hook (Silent POV)
room to runTikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts
A 5-8 second aesthetic or mundane clip (e.g., pouring coffee, walking, sitting at a desk) with a punchy, relatable hook written as text overlay, paired with low-fi or ambient trending audio.
High completion and replay rate because viewers read the text while the video plays through completely. Extremely low barrier to entry—no talking or complex editing required.
The shape
Duration: 5-7 seconds. 1 continuous shot. Text Overlay: Large text hook (0-2s), followed by a secondary punchline line (2-5s). Audio: Ambient instrumental or subtle trending lo-fi sound. Trend Tie-In Pattern: Juxtaposes a mundane daily action with a hyper-specific internal thought or niche frustration.
2-Slide Expectation vs. Reality Carousel
a couple of weeksTikTok, Instagram Reels
A swipeable photo/slide format where Slide 1 presents an idealized outcome or aspirational setup, and Slide 2 reveals the humorous, raw, or chaotic reality.
Swiping signals strong engagement to algorithms. Creates an instant curiosity gap that forces the user to interact.
The shape
Slide Count: 2-3 slides. Slide 1: Curated image with bold text ('How I thought X would look'). Slide 2: Unfiltered, relatable photo/video with caption ('What actually happened'). Audio: Soft background trending track. Trend Tie-In Pattern: Bridges high-aesthetic aspirational tropes with relatable anti-perfectionism.
Green Screen Fast-Breakdown
closing fastTikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts
A creator positioned over a screenshot of a tweet, article headline, or Reddit thread, giving a 15-30 second hot take or quick explanation without any intro.
Piggybacks on existing viral text content. The screenshot acts as a visual visual hook, instantly qualifying the target audience before they even hear the creator speak.
The shape
Duration: 15-30 seconds. Visual: Green Screen effect with creator in bottom corner (cut out). Hook: First line immediately states the take ('This is why everyone is wrong about X'). Text Rhythm: Bold text highlight on screen mirroring creator's main point. Trend Tie-In Pattern: Anchors creator perspective to pre-validated viral commentary.
10-Second Micro-Hack / 'Stop Doing This'
a couple of weeksYouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, TikTok
A hyper-concise demonstration of a mistake people make in a specific domain (editing, cooking, fitness, productivity) immediately followed by the simple fix.
Triggers high save and share rates due to high perceived utility value. Concise format eliminates visual fluff.
The shape
Duration: 8-12 seconds. Hook (0-2s): Screen text 'Stop doing [X] this way'. Body (2-8s): 1 second showing the wrong way, 5 seconds showing the correct shortcut. Text Rhythm: Fast, bold, on-screen text matching spoken words. Pacing: 1.5-second cuts max. Trend Tie-In Pattern: Converts standard advice into a negative constraint hook.
Relatable Audio Context Swap
closing fastInstagram Reels, TikTok
Using a viral lip-sync audio or conversational soundbite (from a podcast or TV show) and assigning it a completely different scenario via text overlay tailored to a creator's niche.
Leverages familiar viral audio while offering fresh novelty through niche-specific text recontextualization.
The shape
Duration: 6-12 seconds. Video: Creator lip-syncing or reacting on camera. Text Overlay: Top center static text describing the situation ('When you realize [Niche Scenario]...'). Camera Cut: Subtle zoom-in at the audio punchline. Trend Tie-In Pattern: Recontextualizes universal emotional reaction sounds into hyper-focused niche humor.
Next week we'll see which of these is still working and which one burned out — the ones that hold are the ones worth building a series on.
